This summer, we launched the very first Mosquito Bucket Challenge—a simple, pollinator-safe way to reduce fogging without harming biodiversity. And what a response it was! From decorated buckets to community giveaways, you showed just how creative and passionate this movement can be.
Your suggestions are already sparking ideas for how we’ll grow this challenge in 2026. This was just the beginning, and we look forward to building on the momentum to make next year’s challenge even stronger.
The Impact
- Over 130,000 people visited the Mosquito Bucket Challenge landing page
- Thousands of participants built their own mosquito buckets
- Community members hosted tabling events, giveaways, and bucket-painting parties
Your efforts didn’t just help reduce fogging, they opened up conversations in neighborhoods, classrooms, and local groups about how we can shift our relationship with nature, starting right in our own yards.

Media Highlights
Your buckets even made the news this summer! The Mosquito Bucket Challenge was featured on:
- NBC News in multiple cities, including NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego
- ABC News in Indianapolis
- In various print articles, and on social media.
Thanks to you, the message is spreading that mosquito control doesn’t have to come at the cost of pollinators and biodiversity.
Listening & Learning
We also heard from many of you! Feedback poured in with questions, suggestions, and ideas to make the challenge even better.
We’re taking all your input to heart as we prepare for next year’s challenge. Expect more detail, more science, and even more ways to get involved.
There were two suggestions we were able to fulfill this year:
HANDOUT
You asked, and we delivered. Our new handout explains how and why mosquito buckets work, perfect for sharing at events, tabling, or with neighbors.
STICKER
Also by request! Not into painting? No problem. We created a ready-to-go sticker you can DIY print or order a weatherproof version on Zazzle. With a QR code to the challenge page, your bucket doubles as a fun conversation starter and mini billboard for the movement.

Keep the Momentum Going
Haven’t built your bucket yet? It’s not too late to give it a try. While buckets work best when started early in the season, they can still make a significant difference in many regions due to the length of the mosquito season.
Already joined in? Share your photos and stories with us, and encourage friends and neighbors to give it a try.
The Mosquito Bucket Challenge shows us something important: when we share practical ways to make our yards healthier, you all respond like champs—rolling up your sleeves, getting your neighbors involved, and proving that this is how the movement will grow. Together, we’re creating a safer, healthier world for pollinators, people, and the planet.
