Homegrown National Park (“HNP”) is committed to protecting your privacy when you visit our website, participate in our online activities, or use the website to make a donation (“Sites”). This privacy policy governs data collection and usage. By using Homegrown National Park Sites you consent to the data practices described in this privacy policy.
1. Collection of Information
“Personal information” is information that can identify an individual. The Sites collect personal information directly or indirectly.
Personal information is collected directly when certain applications on the Sites require users to register or to provide personal information in order to contact us, be entered onto the Map, make a donation, register for or request a lecture or event, or to subscribe to a newsletter. Personal information that may be collected include name, title, email address, mailing address, phone number, and payment information. To better understand the needs of our users, we may also request other demographic information. Entry of such demographic information is optional and if you choose not to enter such information, you can still participate in the activity. If we request demographic information, we will not share information about you as an individual with any other entity. If we do share demographic information with third parties, we will give them aggregate information only.
Personal information is collected indirectly when Homegrown National Park automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including IP address, cookie and pixel information, and the page you request in order to better serve our visitors to the Sites. You may choose to set your browser so that it does not accept cookies. Most areas of the Sites will function without cookies, but cookies are required if you wish to register, sign in, place items in your shopping bag, or purchase items from the Sites. For an optimal experience with the Sites, we recommend that you allow cookies.
2. How We Use the Information
We Collect HNP uses your personal information for a number of purposes, including the following:
- To respond to inquiries;
- To measure and improve services and features of our Sites;
- For internal recordkeeping;
- To inform you of upcoming events and to administer such events;
- To process donations;
- To send newsletters, special offers, and information about new services;
- To notify you about a material change to this privacy policy;
- To operate the Homegrown National Park interactive map;
- To protect the rights of HNP and others. There may be instances when we may disclose your personal information, including situations where we have a good faith belief that such processing is necessary in order to: (i) protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety, or property of HNP, our affiliates or their employees, agents and contractors, (ii) protect the safety, privacy, and security of users of our Sites or members of the public, and (iii) to protect against fraud or for risk management purposes;
- To comply with applicable laws or legal process and/or respond to requests from public and government authorities; and
- For any other legitimate reasons.
3. Mailing Lists
If you provide your email address, Homegrown National Park may periodically contact you with special offers, updated information, and new services. Any emails sent to you by Homegrown National Park will offer you the option to be removed from the email mailing list. Selected applications on our Sites allow visitors to subscribe to our newsletter by providing their names and addresses to Homegrown National Park. If you provide Homegrown National Park with your mailing address or telephone number, Homegrown National Park, in addition to providing you with Homegrown National Park newsletter, may also use this information to alert you to updated information and new offerings. 4. Information to Third Parties
Homegrown National Park does not sell, rent or lease its Site visitor lists to third parties. Homegrown National Park may share your personal information with the following:
- We may contract with companies or persons to provide services, and these service providers receive personal information needed for them to perform these services.
- Homegrown National Park may also occasionally present a special contest or promotion on Homegrownnationalpark.org that is sponsored by another company. To qualify for entry, we may ask you to provide personal information. If we plan to share that information with the sponsor(s), we will provide a statement to that effect.
- Homegrown National Park may share personal information with sponsors and hosts of HNP events to allow sponsors and hosts to provide the event and contact you about future events that may be of interest to you.
- Homegrown National Park may also work with third-party analytics and marketing partners who use technologies such as cookies and pixels on the HNP’s behalf. These providers help us manage our Sites, process online and offline transactions, better respond to the needs of our visitors, and enhance our communication/marketing efforts. This may include third-party analytics vendors such as Google analytics, Facebook Analytics, and other marketing partners who serve advertisements across the internet, offline, and sometimes on the Sites on the HNP’s behalf. They may use information about your visits to the Sites and other sites to personalize advertisements for goods and services. Note that this opt-out is specific to Google activities and does not affect the activities of other ad networks or analytics providers that we may use. We also use Facebook Analytics to measure your use of the Sites, tailor our Sites to your interests, and improve our services. Please note, Facebook can connect this data with your Facebook account and use it for its own advertising purposes, in accordance with Facebook’s Data Policy, which can be found at Facebook.com/about/privacy/. We and our third-party vendors or partners use analytics data for a variety of purposes such as to improve the design and content of our Sites, to help us learn things like what pages are most attractive to all of our visitors, and what promotions visitors like to see, and to gauge the success of our communications/marketing campaigns.
- Except as provided above, Homegrown National Park will disclose your personal information, without your consent, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Homegrown National Park or the Site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Homegrown National Park; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Homegrown National Park, or the public.
In the unlikely event of a direct or indirect reorganization process including, but not limited to, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, bankruptcies, and sales of all or a part of our assets, Homegrown National Park may disclose your personal information following completion of such transaction and/or during the assessment process pending transfer. If transferred in such a case, your personal information will be subject to the terms and conditions of this privacy policy.
5. Security of Personal Information
Homegrown National Park will provide reasonable security for any personal information that you share with us. If you make a donation on our Sites, we will use your credit card number only to process your payment. Credit card information is not stored on our server. When personal information (such as credit card number) is transmitted to other websites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. We will retain donation information for our records, but this information is never shared with third parties. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure from or can prevent all potential security breaches. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you understand that any information that you transfer to us is done at your own risk. We recommend that you take additional measures to protect yourself, including by making sure that you regularly update software. By using the Sites, you agree that we can communicate with you electronically regarding security, privacy, and administrative issues. We may post a notice via our Sites if a security breach occurs. We may also send an email to you at the email address you have provided to us in these circumstances. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to receive notice of a security breach in writing.
6. Links
Our Sites include links to other websites. We do not control the privacy policies of the destination websites. Once you leave our servers (you can check where you are by checking the URL in the location bar on your browser), use of any information you provide is governed by the privacy policy of the operator of the website you are visiting. That policy may differ from ours. If you can't find the privacy policy of any of these websites via a link from the website's homepage, you should contact the manager of that website for more information. Homegrown National Park is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of websites other than our Sites.
7. Email Communications Are Not Confidential
If you email Homegrown National Park, any message, business information, ideas, concepts, or other information sent to the HNP by email will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.
8. Public Posting Areas
Please note that any information you include in a message you post to any chat room, forum, blog, or other public posting area is available to anyone with Internet access. For example, if you do not want people to know your email address, do not include it in any message you post publicly. PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN DISCLOSING ANY INFORMATION IN CHAT ROOMS, FORUMS, BLOGS, AND OTHER PUBLIC POSTING AREAS. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE USE BY OTHERS OF THE INFORMATION THAT YOU DISCLOSE IN CHAT ROOMS, FORUMS, BLOGS, AND OTHER PUBLIC POSTING AREAS.
9. Data Retention
We will maintain your personal information for our records only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it is collected and in accordance with legal obligations.
10. Children
The Sites are not intended for or directed to anyone under the age of 13. In the event that a section of the Sites is geared towards children, we will not knowingly request any personal information. When we learn that a person under the age of 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete such personal information.
11. Contact Us/How to Update Your Personal Information
You can help Homegrown National Park maintain the accuracy of your personal information by notifying us when you change your address, title, phone number, or email address. Please fill out the form located on our website’s “Contact Us” page if you wish to update your information or if you no longer wish to receive communications from Homegrown National Park, our partners, or selected third parties. Please include both your old and new contact information so that we can make the appropriate corrections. HNP would like to receive your comments or questions about this privacy policy. 12. Changes to the Privacy Policy
Homegrown National Park may revise this policy at any time. We will notify you of any changes to our privacy policy by posting the new privacy policy here and updating the “Last Updated” date at the top. If we make a material change to this privacy policy, we will either continue to honor our prior policy for information that we collected when it was in force, or we will notify you by prominently posting the changes on our Sites or by using the contact information you have on file with us.
