Introducing the Wildr Score: A New Collaboration with Plan it Wild

The new Wildr Score from Homegrown National Park and Plan it Wild helps you measure your impact and celebrate the nature you’ve brought home.

Fall is a great time to take stock of your outdoor space. Maybe you planted a tree, added native plants, or changed how you care for your yard—every step makes a difference.

Now’s also a great time to log that impact by adding your property (or updating your entry) on the Homegrown National Park Biodiversity Map™.

We’ve partnered with Plan it Wild to bring the Wildr Score™ to the Biodiversity Map, giving you a fun, easy way to see how your outdoor space supports nature! It adds a new layer of insight and motivation, helping you measure your progress and celebrate the difference you’re making.

A Simple Snapshot of Your Yard’s Health

The Wildr Score feature gives you a quick snapshot of how healthy and life-filled your yard is. It looks at your lawn size, trees, native plantings, and care practices, then offers clear ideas for making your yard even better for both people and wildlife.

You can find the new Wildr Score option right inside the Biodiversity Map, where it’s easier than ever to see your impact grow over time.

Visit the Biodiversity Map to add or update your native plantings, then click on “Get your Wildr Score” to take the short quiz. Once you have those results, enter them into your Map entry.

Small Steps, Big Impact

For decades, many of us have been told that a “good yard” is one that looks tidy and uniform. But that model often comes with hidden costs, like runoff, loss of habitat, and the decline of pollinators and other wildlife.

The encouraging truth is that better choices are simple: planting native species, reducing mowed areas, and adjusting how we care for our outdoor spaces. These steps bring more life, color, and movement close to home while creating a yard that’s healthier and easier to care for.

Tim Snyder, Executive Director of HNP

“The Wildr Score shows that small, simple steps—planting a tree, adding a few native flowers—really do matter,” says Tim Snyder, Executive Director of Homegrown National Park. “It’s about creating spaces that are alive, healthy, and deeply rewarding.”

Plan it Wild (an ecological landscape design firm) shares Homegrown National Park’s vision of helping people reconnect with nature through the places they already care for. Their motto, Less Lawn More Life, speaks to a shared belief that when we make space for nature, we make space for ourselves.

“This partnership shows that creating a more natural outdoor space doesn’t have to be complicated,” says Joanna Hall, CEO of Plan it Wild. “It can start with simple, everyday choices that enrich our lives and the world around us.”

Take a Moment to Celebrate Your Progress

This fall, take a few minutes to celebrate what you’ve grown and see how far you’ve come.

Head to the Biodiversity Map to update your entry, add your planted square footage, and explore your new Wildr Score feature.

Together, we’re growing something larger—yards and communities that feel alive, connected, and full of possibility.
